EIT Manufacturing is the continuation of the EIT-KIC partnership of the same name currently implemented through the EIT. During 2017 we have been working across our community to explore how EIT Climate-KIC can speed up impact on whole systems through innovation. This theory of change: As set in the EIT Regulation, the EIT funding on average may not exceed 25% of a KIC's overall funding, which means that the remaining minimum 75% must come from non‐EIT sources. The non‐EIT funding may include KIC partners' own resources, public funding at national, regional and EU level, such Cross-KIC Sustainable Cities aims at strengthening collaboration across innovation communities for European carbon-neutral cities by 2030. All the KICs of Cross-KIC Sustainable Cities are working with cities in one form or another, and are critical actors in the climate, food, mobility, and digital spaces, respectively.

The Cross-KIC circular action includes two specific calls; one on environmental technology verification (ETV) and one on circular SMEs. KIC CCI - Next steps Commission proposal: the Strategic Innovation Agenda 2021-2027 of the EIT under Horizon Europe, adopted in July 2019, mentions the creation of a KIC on CCI with a call in 2021. Interinstitutional negotiations: until December 2020, to determine among other things, if the theme selected is EIT Climate-KIC, EIT RawMaterials, EIT Digital, EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility are aiming to strengthen collaboration between European circular economy activities.

Madrid City Council has agreed to join EIT Climate-KIC in its Sustainable and Healthy Cities Demonstrator, which will tackle the transformation of this European city into a climate-neutral future. Thus, the councillors of all the partiesrepresented in the municipal assembly have approved the incorporation of the city to this European initiative.

The EIT brings together leading business, education and research organisations to form dynamic cross-border partnerships.
